The City of Greendale Administration Office will be closed tomorrow, Friday, April 25, as staff assist with Arbor Day. We appreciate your understanding. As part of our Arbor Day celebration, Greendale is giving away free tree seedlings—one per household—today and tomorrow at the City Utility Building while supplies last. Available species include buttonbush, black cherry, shumard oak, and silver maple. Information sheets about each species are available inside the Utility Building, and staff will be happy to answer any questions to help you choose the right tree for your property.

Dear Residents and Friends of Greendale, As we step into 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on the accomplishments of 2024 and share the exciting plans and projects that lie ahead for this year. The past year was marked by a lot of progress, setting the stage for even greater achievements in the year to come. First, I would like to congratulate Greendale, Dillsboro, and Dearborn County on being one of two recipients of the 2025 Stellar Award. This $2.7 million grant will primarily fund streetscape upgrades on lower Ridge Avenue, a key component of Greendale’s Main Street master plan. In 2024, Greendale parks saw several significant upgrades, including improvements to the basketball courts and the paving of the Schnebelt Pond walkway. Additionally, plans are underway for the construction of six new pickleball courts and a new tennis court at the site of the old tennis courts. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Park Board and city employees for their remarkable efforts in decorating our parks this December—the results were truly outstanding! On the financial front, the Greendale Redevelopment Commission signed an agreement projected to generate over $7 million in tax revenues over the next 25 years. A majority of these funds will be committed to the Greendale Beautification Fund at the Dearborn Community Foundation. This fund will provide resources in perpetuity for initiatives such as cleaning homes and façade improvements for Greendale residents, ensuring long-term benefits for our community. Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be a transformative year for Greendale: St. Elizabeth’s new hospital is expected to break ground in March. With the support of the 2024 READI Grant and the Greendale Redevelopment Commission, a $36 million, 176-unit market-rate apartment complex will begin construction. Additionally, a $17 million, 88-room Hilton Home2 Suites will be developed adjacent to the Greendale Cinema. A European based company intends to locate their new North American Headquarters in Greendale bringing approximately 80 new jobs. In infrastructure, the City is completing soccer field paving and water runoff improvements to ensure a safe water supply for residents. In 2024, the City made significant investments in infrastructure by upgrading critical sewer infrastructure along Belleview. Additionally, efforts are underway to evaluate options for upgrading or replacing the city’s current water plant, which has served the community for over 70 years. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is addressing traffic concerns at the Belleview, US 50, and I-275 intersection. Short-term improvements are planned for this year, including changes to allow two lanes from Belleview to merge onto the expressway simultaneously. A complete redesign of the intersection is scheduled to take place in seven years. Finally, we are exploring options for over-55 housing developments and affordable senior housing to meet community needs. Thank you for your continued support.
