On Arbor Day this past Friday, Greendale’s own Linda Cromer welcomed fifth-grade students from Central Elementary School to the Greendale Cabin for a day rooted in learning, connection, and community. Students kicked things off by learning the proper way to plant a tree, then got their hands in the dirt as they took turns planting one together. 🌱 The group explored the deeper purpose of trees, visiting the Sycamore Sisters—a peaceful, sacred space filled with towering sycamores. Linda shared how trees can ground us, reminding students that while life can feel overwhelming, standing among trees can make you feel small in a meaningful, calming way. Through practices like forest bathing, students learned how simply pausing, breathing, and connecting with nature can ease the mind and body. Inside, creativity bloomed as students made bird nesters using wood from a Greendale tree, embracing the city’s love for reducing, reusing, and recycling. They also decorated biodegradable pots as heartfelt Mother’s Day gifts. A special thank you to Lowe’s for sponsoring seeds and trees, along with support from Walmart, Civista Bank, and Greendale Cinema. The day also featured an Arbor Day poster contest (with awards for the top 3 posters), tree trivia (with candy for all!), and meaningful take-home bags filled with an Indiana Community Tree Selection Guide, seed fact sheets, and stormwater activity packets. BWF Envirotec and City of Greendale leaders came together to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Germany-based company’s new North American manufacturing headquarters on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. The project represents an approximately $9 million investment by BWF Envirotec. The 65,000 sq. ft. facility will host 60 jobs with an average annual wage of $75,000 per year. BWF Envirotec, a leading global provider of all-in-one solutions for industrial filtration, will manufacture industrial filters at the new Greendale operation. Greendale Mayor Vince Karsteter offered the following comments at the event. “We are very proud of what we’ve built here in Greendale. Our little city has become a major employment hub for Dearborn County and Southeast Indiana. As mayor, you might expect me to take the credit, but the truth is that days like today happen only as the culmination of many projects and partnerships with many of you here in attendance today. Partners like Indiana Municipal Power Agency, Sycamore Gas, South Dearborn Regional Sewer District, the Lawrenceburg Conservancy District, Dearborn County, Maxwell Construction, Lawrenceburg Community Schools, and Indiana Economic Development Corporation. Collectively, they have helped us create an environment where businesses can succeed. This is not just some bold statement. It is a fact. The City of Greendale Administration Office will be closed tomorrow, Friday, April 24, as staff assist with Arbor Day. We appreciate your understanding. As part of our Arbor Day celebration, Greendale is giving away free tree seedlings—one per household—tomorrow at the City Utility Building while supplies last. Available species include buttonbush, redbud, shumard oak, white oak, and sugar maple. Information sheets about each species are available inside the Utility Building, and staff will be happy to answer any questions to help you choose the right tree for your property.

Volunteers are invited to join the upcoming Clean-Up Day on Saturday, April 25th at the Greendale Community Garden starting at 9:00am. The Greendale Community Garden is located on the corner of Hayman Drive and Ludlow Street across from the Greendale Police Station. Students who participate can earn Tremain Memorial Scholarship Community Service Learning hours. The City of Greendale is excited to share a new opportunity for families this summer and we need your help to shape its schedule! The City of Greendale would like to inform residents that water main replacement work is expected to begin around Wednesday, April 1st along Nowlin Avenue, from Haag Avenue to the underpass with staging and preparation work. During this time, traffic control measures will be in place, and motorists should expect lane restrictions in the area. Drivers are encouraged to use caution and allow extra time when traveling through the construction zone. The water main replacement construction will start on Monday, April 6th. The electric project is still ongoing but will not be in the same area (Nowlin North section) during the water main replacement. The electric project will instead be working from Parkside to Probasco. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to improve infrastructure in our community.

The City of Greendale is pleased to share that Greendale Main Street will host the inaugural Greendale PickleFest Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, May 9 at our pickle ball courts in Greendale Park at 853 Nowlin Ave, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025.
