Letter from Mayor Vince Karsteter on Summer Infrastructure Improvements

Dear Greendale Residents,

As summer draws to a close, I want to take a moment to thank you — sincerely — for your patience and understanding as our city crews have worked through a season full of major infrastructure improvements. I know construction, detours, and outages are never convenient, and I don't take your patience for granted.

This summer, our team completed important drainage improvements near Saint Elizabeth, addressing longstanding stormwater issues and helping to reduce ponding on Highway 50 during heavy rain.

Along Nowlin Avenue, our crews completed a major electrical upgrade, replacing aging electrical lines and further modernizing our system from 4 Kv to 12 Kv. This investment improves the reliability and efficiency of the power that reaches homes and businesses throughout Greendale, and I'm proud to say this portion of the electrical upgrade project is now complete.

We also have completed the replacement of the 8-inch water main along Nowlin Avenue, from Haag Avenue to the underpass. The line we replaced was more than 60 years old and had a history of repeated breaks — this upgrade means safer, cleaner, more reliable water for the northern part of our city for decades to come. This month the ditch line will be milled and repaved to Greendale standards. We are currently applying for a CCMG grant to help cover 80% of the paving costs to repave Nowlin Ave from Haag Ave to the underpass early next year.

At Valley Woods, our team replaced the dam's aging overflow system, a critical safety upgrade that helps the dam manage heavy rainfall and protects the neighborhoods downstream.

Monday we started the repaving project of Ridge Avenue (cemetery entrance to Broadway), giving residents smoother, safer roads for years to come. The goal is to have this wrapped up by the first week of October.

None of this work happens without disruption, and I want to personally thank you for bearing with us through the noise, the detours, and the inconvenience. These are the kinds of investments that don't always make headlines, but they matter every single day — in the water that comes out of your tap, the power that keeps your lights on, and the roads you drive to work and back.
