Recycle non-alkaline battery types like lithium ion, Ni-Cd shown. Dearborn County doesn’t accept alkaline. Blue and green text.

Did you know not all batteries can safely be disposed of in your trash?

Non-alkaline batteries (such as lithium-ion, rechargeable, button, power tool, and lead-acid batteries) should be taken to the Dearborn County Recycling Center Drive-Thru. These batteries contain materials that can be harmful to the environment and may pose a fire risk to trash haulers and waste workers if thrown in the trash as they can potentially ignite instantly when crushed or compacted!

Alkaline batteries (common household AA, AAA, C, D, and 9-volt) are NOT accepted at the recycling center at this time. These batteries are safe to dispose of in your regular household trash.

Dearborn County residents can drop off non-alkaline batteries and electronics at the Dearborn County Recycling Center’s Drive-Thru, open Monday–Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm, and on Wednesdays from 9:00am to 6:00pm. For residents who can’t make the Recycling Center’s hours, some retailers, including Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Staples, also accept batteries.

By disposing of batteries correctly, you help protect our environment, trash haulers, and waste workers. Thank you for doing your part to keep Greendale safe and sustainable!
